I’m all for a consistent diet. A diet should be what you eat, not something you go on for a short time. I also think that cheating should be a part of that diet. In fact, I doubt a diet can be successful without cheating.
You should set one day a week when you can eat whatever and however you want; to eat whatever you’ve been craving until you stop craving it. You can think of it as a reward for being good on your diet, but it also has an important function.
Your body loves homeostasis, staying the same. If you stick to a strict diet you metabolism will eventually slow down to match your diet. If you don’t shake things up your body will “get used to” your diet and all progress will stop. This applies to all diets; they all have the dreaded plateau.
The idea is to satisfy any craving you have. Eat a whole pizza, a whole box of Oreos, all the candy you want. Your body will see this sudden sharp increase in energy and kick start your metabolism.
Bonus: you will have something to look forward to every week.
