“Vinegar is a liquid substance consisting mainly of acetic acid (CH3CO2H) and water, the acetic acid being produced through the fermentation of ethanol by acetic acid bacteria.” (1)
Vinegar has long been used for cleaning, eating and first aid but the health and environmental benefits are nothing short of awesome! With the variety of vinegar, the variety of uses is constantly increasing. Distilled white vinegar is a powerful, natural cleaner and disinfectant. It can kill weeds, stop ants and aid in plant growth. (2) Since I had no idea about these uses, I did more research.
Apple Cider Vinegar is becoming more and more popular and localized. Local orchards are creating their own blends and in turn, using all of their harvests. ”Apple cider vinegar is purported to treat numerous diseases, health conditions, and annoyances. To name a few, it’s supposed to kill head lice, reverse aging, ease digestion, and wash “toxins” from the body.” (3) Check out your local farmer’s markets and orchards to find your favorites!
Vinegar(s) has been shown to lower cholesterol and triglycerides, lower glucose in carbohydrates and is even being used in cancer research. (1) Again, nature has provided a tool that we would be ignorant to ignore.
